Which Carbs?

Trying to find some Z1A carbs with no success. I believe they are 28mm which are difficult to find. Question is, would the more commonly available 26mm carbs work, and are there any other options

Simon, try the 34mm that are on it first unless it is an asthetics issue. Secondly I understand the only difference between the two is about reliability not performance.

I probably will Ken, just thought it would be nicer (looks and running wise) to have original carbs. Strange logic considering what I'm planning for the rest of it

Bike will run perfectly well (arguably better than the 28's)on the 26mm carbs from a Z900. If your not bothered about originality go for it or try carbs from Z1000/Z1R etc.

29mm smoothbores, but if you have 34mm CVs on try them. Go to Wired Georges site if you have trouble

hi there, I fitted some 26mm carbs to my 1972 Z1, they physically fit ok, a bit deeper front to back but only a few mm. They run really nice, smooth even tickover, better, better low rev pick up than the 28mms and on a run 55-60 mpg at 70-80 mph. They may have clipped a little off the top speed, but the driveability at low to medium revs is where I use it most of the time.
Regards

Thanks Simon, that is interesting to know. Seems bigger isn't always better?
