1. anyone got a drawing, that is better than the poxy effort in the haynes - showing the fitment of the oil pressure switch?
2. oil pressure switch is just that - it is not actiing as an oil pressure relief valve to control the oil pressure?
3. so what control oil pressure if there is no relief valve?
4. at what psi does the switch close contacts? (i.e. lamp goes off)
5. assuming answer is "yes" to 2., in theory another type of oil switch, say from a car - much cheapness - could be fitted if a suitable adaptor is made?
6. what is the thread for the oil pressure switch?

If I remember correctly the switch makes the circuit when the engine is off.
When the oil pressure flows through the switch it breaks the contacts and the light goes out.
Hence when the pressure drops the contact is re made and the light comes on.

LOL very good, I knew that

- that is how most oil pressue switches work - there is usually a spring loaded metal diaphrgam that is pushed by the oil to open the electrical circuit, the body of the switch being the earth and the other end connected to 12 V via a lamp.

O2GF, the oil pressure switch does act like a relief valve, because the oil pump supplies pressue that lifts a small circular plate which allows oil to flow through the system, no pressure, no lift. This circular plate when lifted opens the circuit by breaking the earth and light goes out. This little plate is in the path of the main oil flow.

cheers garn1 - I thought as much. "arse" is what springs to mind.

Zed engines only run at about 3 psi (2.8 i think?) - loads of flow, little pressure - thats the beauty of roller bearing cranks
