Carb refurb kits ?

Most of my time this last year seems to have been spent trying to cure my carburation issues with some success. The bike a Z1B now has the correct carbs thanks to Gez runs well but is very difficult to start when left for a few days. As previous threads show the ignition is Dyna s with new coils / plugs providing a good spark. When started on a regular basis it starts ok :?: why. The bike starts without the need for choke the jets are all correct, fuel heights set, is this common :?: .
So the plan is to have the carbs ultrasonicly cleaned and maybe a refurb kit for each.
now for the questions
1. Jrs quote £60 for cleaning carbs dose any club member do them and how much .:?:
2. Which if required are the best refurb kits NRP or EBAY or Zpower :?:
3. As the bike runs ok do you think the above is not required and the answer is more simple.
4. What is the correct needle position for the modle the Clymer says position 2 some members say position 3. :?:
This problem has spoilt the whole year but I won't let the f-cker beat me so any advice is welcome I just don't want to change to many things at once and not know if any progress is made.

Hi Alan, i used keyster carb kits for my a2 which i got from the states they cost about £45.00 with postage, the bike runs a lot better the only thing they did not come with was needle jets which i have now got and will put them in over the winter, the clymer states the z1b needle is on second groove from the top,i would use all the basic settings for that model to start with and go from there, good luck

Hi Alan,
I used JRS & while the service was fast, I was not impressed with the results. I have since bought my own Ultrasonic cleaner, a proper jobbie, not some of the cheap foreign rubbish.
I'll clean your carbs for you.... £20 sound reasonable? You pay the postage. If your not happy, then don't pay. I'm just trying to recoup the cost of a £200 machine.
Did Mikeys a couple of weeks ago, I think he was happy.

starts on the button even after standing for a few days, runs on all 4 pots
straight away all the spluttering, misfiring has stopped and runs a lot smoother happy days :D :D :D

I am slightly embarrassed to admit that mine is like it too!!

Run it every few days~it starts by opening the garage door. Leave it for a week and it sulks like a *****.

Had many thoughts about this during; this year and last and replaced all the usual suspects.

Came to the conclusion it was down to hot soak and evaporation.

I seem to be on a personal crusade to find out what they have done with the pixie dust that used to be in petrol. It appears now, to be water with a few 'E' numbers in it.
Fine if you use it every day but rubbish if you leave a small quantity of it in an 'open' float bowl for a week.
Looking at the 'hot soak' and evaporative emissions test results from The US EPA and others; it appears that the vast majority of VOC's are lost within the first hour after shut down.
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/models/mobile6/m6evp007.pdf

That said; i left half a gallon of petrol in an open container in the garage, with dirty carbs in soak over a week during the summer and nearly all (approx 80 - 90%) disappeared.

I might do some flame testing of new and week old petrol to see what happens. If you dont hear from me again....................

Was also reading that 'Premium Unleaded' what is referred to by some as 'the good stuff' is possibly 10 - 15 % ethanol (this may apply to the US only though)

Ethanol is known to damage some older type carb components/seals and hoses made from natural materials.
It also has an affinity for water.

That was my final though after 'hotsoak' and 'evaporative losses';............. condensation in the carbs.

Ring any bells anyone?
