I will be buying dyna coils but would like to retain the the old metal spark plug caps.
Is this do-able?

On the bikes I have seen, they seem to have new leads and new plug caps
So.......If I do need new ones, I might as well order them all at the same time.

Yes, you should be able to fit your old leads & caps to the Dyna coils.

Dyna S is best run with compatible Dyna leads, but probably not essential.

If you're running Dyna 2000 or any of the programmable stuff, then you need the proper suppressed leads, so there is no interference with the electronics

This is your ideal opportunity to throw those hideous metal plug caps where they belong 'in the bin'

i have fitted dyna s ignition and dyna coils to my 73 z1 but to keep that standard look used new ordinary black ht leads and the standard gray shafted metal plug caps and the bike runs perfect. You can buy the ht lead from vehicle wiring products and you will also need 4 terminals & 4 covers to plug them into the coils, give them a ring on 0115 9305454 and they will send you a catalouge

Any plug cap will be OK as long as there is no resistor fitted within the cap itself..... I found out the hard way with NGK caps

I have Dyna S ignition and coils with Taylor leads.
When fault finding I tested the leads and couldn't understand why I was getting such a high resistance reading from one end of the lea to the other - is this due to suppression then? and how much power does this remove from the final spark?

Thanks for replies - (especially Mr C Martin, just down the road from me in Melton) This was exactly the type of info I needed.
I would like to retain the standard look if I can, but I am not too obessive about it.
I don't think the original caps are too hideous. I like to keep to a working formula if I can, and up to now, - 29 years- they have not given me any problems.
