took pistons out the back caliper and I guess ideally they should be replace but they are usable.

... so am I looking at an arm and a leg price or does someone sell generic pistons; obviopulsy they need to be same size;

mesured:
42.8 mm diameter
overall depth 21.7 mm
seal depth: 17.2 mm (this is the bit beyond the step that runs against the seal).

Z power do them, and I'm pretty sure that there are some generic copies available through the bike trade. Some come with the seal, think £20-odd quid a piston from memory.

Alternatively, there is a guy called Mark Copley who advertises in the VJMC white book , he's in Yeovil , and he will make you replicas in stainless, for £15 each plus postage. You send him the old ones, he sends back lovely new ones a couple of weeks later. ( I'll try to find his contact details if some else doesn't beat me to it )

I've used him on most bikes I've restored, and he does a good job. He does NOT polish the pistons, just fine mills them. It tends to make pistons a little slower to move out and take up pad wear, so lever travel becomes a bit longer, then one day the piston travels far enough to slide on the seal, and lever is back at full firm. Alternative is every 3 months, take caliper off, pump lever once, ease caliper back on , job done. worth every penny to avoid ever having to replace them again. Don't forget to clean out the caliper groove fully, I use a brass radial brush in a dremel....gently.

There is a guy from the north east who is a member on here.
i sent my old piston and he machined two for me;good quality, stainless.
They have been on the bike for over a year now with no probs. I think his name was Terry. Maybe he will make himself known after reading this thread.
Very reasonable too.
