Anyone fitted one of these:



What the bronze coloured bits for ? There is no way that my swing arm is going to fit in the frame with those bronze bushes and the dust covers on the ends of the swing arm. It's just too wide. It will go back in with just the dust covers on.

When it came out it had some crappy nylon bushes in and just the dust covers on the ends.

Do I need the bronze bits ? Are they just for fitting the bearings ?

Bike has a rear disk on it with 228mm wide swing arm.

Any help appreciated.

Dwhitehouse, sure did think that the brains-trust would have been able to help you. I'm sorry I don't know the answer, although I've done quit a few of the plain bearing types.

I'm thinking that the bronze pieces could be for, as you say, pressing the bearing into the swing-arm, however I can't see PMC giving away bronze, just for an assembly tool.

I would check your overall assembly length and see how it compares with the 228 mm swing-arm gap. Check the overall length with bronze {flanges} assembled into the swing arm on both ends + end caps. If the bronze bushes are needed, should be around 228 - 0.5mm approx. Check also the length of the four bearing (with bearings assembled inside + two bronze peces + distance piece + two end caps should be 228mm.

Surrely, a UK member must have done this conversion before?

It looks as though there are some instructions in that kit. If possible could you take a pic of those and post?

The instructions are in Japanese I will take a pic later and post however because there are some pictures. They don't really help much though to be fair.

I've tried it a number if ways and I can't get the arm to fit with the bronze bits.

There is also a shoulder inside the swing arm that prevents you from fitting two bearings in. So I can only get one bearing in anyway.

Since I took one nylon bush out then I guess one new replacement needle roller bearing is going to be better than one shagged nylon bush.

Try a z1000 swingarm , disc fitment and I'm sure your bearings would fit .

why don't you post a picture of the instructions as ghb suggests, he is in blummin Japan, he might be able to help.

could be the wrong set for what swingarm you have,the bronze bits go in the ends and the caps cover them.

Now have it fitted.

Z1000A1 rear swing arm is 228 mm wide, has single needle roller bearing each end.

There are dust caps each end and that's it.

Fits OK now. I have some spares left over If you need any bearings I'd take a look at http://simplybearings.co.uk they seem to have everything.

Dwhitehouse, This isn't clear.
I take it, you have fitted a single [16mm] long bearings in either end, with the distant piece and the the two ground sleeves and the end-caps and tightened up the swing-arm bolt. You discarded the bronze pieces!

This means that the distance piece, the two sleeves and the two caps, lock up the bolt in the frame and the swing-arm is free to rotate in the bearings. Be careful that the end caps do not move with the swing-arm! pretty hard to tell with the shocks on. I'm not sure if those sleeves are a good fit on the swing-arm bolt.

That kit was obviously for a later model than the Z1000 A1.

I measured the swing arm on my bike (Z1000A1) and it's 228 mm wide. I think a Z900 swing arm is 220 mm wide. The two bronze end caps are both 4mm. This would account for the difference.

Hence my slight confusion. Z-Power said the kit would fit my bike and it does if you discard the bronze end bushes and two of the bearings.

Maybe you can shed some more light on it gbh.

Pretty detailed instructions but no mention of leaving any parts out dependent on model. If you have assembled it and the bronze bushes are excess it seems a little odd. However, if it works then that is what matters most.
