Gents I have just had my KZ1000 1979 written off by the insurance company for a front end crash. Before I make any decisions about whether to rebuild or not I wanted to be sure the headstock alignment had not been damaged. Does anyone have any advice about testing it without any specialist equipment or alignment rigs. - Thanks Jacobmarley

Jacobmarley try searching for a thread by our kid John Roscoe he found his frame was bent very slightly and the thread shows it damaged and being repaired on a jig with photo's it may give you some help.
to check the steering head is not bent place the bike on the centre stand then place a spirit level across the frame rails above the battery and pack under the stand to ensure the bike is perfectly level then place a straight edge either side of the rear tyre as though you were checking after a chain adjustment. this will give you two straight edges projecting beyond the steering head now place a brush pole or similar straight bar down through the headstock down to the floor, You can now measure to each straight edge and thus determine if the headstock has twisted left or right.
hpoe this helps
