Valve stem oil seals themselves aren't that expensive but you need a head gasket, rocker cover gasket etc. and you should check all your cam chain wheels and replace the wee rubbers as well they're probably bakelite. If you're doing the work yourself you're looking at about £80 worth of bits assuming nothing else is shot.

I have the same problem, just recently got a zed with similar work done and it's burning an excessive amount of oil. So your saying it can only be the valve seals?

how many miles since rebuild?
how long ago were the pistons fitted?
was new rings fitted as well ?
what type of oil are you using?
how much oil are you using in say 100 mile?

It´s done about a 800 miles within a month. The rebuild is recent about six weeks. The oil was changed twice with semi 10/40. It seems to be using half a litre per 100 miles. The other strange thing it did was to burst the tacho seal and send oil up to the clock spewing oil over the handlebars, tank and me.

i would suspect the rebuild. sounds like it is pressurising the crankcases. Have you done a compression test - the rings may not be sealing properly or its been bored loose.
does it smoke at all ?

It might pay to check the crankcase breather , had a blocked one on an old tincorna once and it drank oil as if it was out of fashion .
