Is there much difference between the LTD frame (1980) and standard Zed frames? Mainly interested in head stock rake/angle & rear end set up, due to 16" wheel. Could an Z1000LTD frame be used as a base for making a standard Z1000?

Hi Pigford,
I believe the main differences are at the rear end. Mainly swinging arm brake brackets and brake stay bracket on the rear section of the frame .
Cheers Colin

Pigford all the Ltds up to the J engined ones (K1) used a frame based on the Z900 style,to convert to a standard looking change back wheel for 18 inch one,fit a standard z1000 tank and thats about it,heres a pic from Redlinecycles who deal in a lot of LTDs ,standard and modified

The Z1000LTD (K) has a different frame to the 1000J,different footrest hangers,different forks,bodywork,rear wheel is 16".
If you want to fit an earlier Z motor instead of a J type motor, you'll have to change the engine mounts as well.
Definitely not a 5 minute job.

Pigford that one there looks like a CSR/LTD,CSR had wire wheels,LTD alloy wheels. The frame on these bikes ,J motor, are totally different to the standard frames, seat rails are lower and the steering angle different, also the forks are leading axle type.I thought about changing the Spectre to a more "normal"looking style but there were too many things to change

Pigford, you'd be better off starting off with a Z1000J or even a twin shock GPz1100 as the basis for a Lawson project.

Put a set of low bars on it and run it for a while

Iain, must admit, looks quite tasty! Cheers for advice about frame
Gonna swap the bars first thing! Have to keep me eye out for some nice pipes & maybe a 'J' style tank too!
I do like the alloy rims/spoked wheel tho! Gonna do some polishing (M I K E Y)
Bike has standard CV type carbs & K&Ns, but probably not jetted to suit.

May do a nice old skool STREETFIGHTER jobbie

london calling, thanx for advice: "Get rid of all the U.S. cam cover emission crap for more performance."
Thats the kind of advice I like
Will try to source a set of plain (non-CV) carbs & K&N's asap!
