Hi all,

this is my first post so go easy - o got my lovely 03 Z1000 at the weekend and am getting to know it.

I just want to know what sort of running temps to expect - think mine might be a bit warm - on motorway was running approx 80-85C but then went up to around 100C on town roads (not bussy)

Im running with a power commander3, cut down standard pipes, and K&N air filter.

Cheers

Hi Martyn,
I have had mine since new in 2003. It runs at 80c while weather is like it is now. when i get into town or on slower roads, ie 20mph or so in traffic it can go up to 100 or 104 at times. The fan comes in about 102. When on the way to the faro rally a few years ago it was running at about 95c while at 80mph on the motorways in spain/portugal.It was bloody hot weather though. As long as its temp goes down when the fan is on it should be ok. Its always worth changing the coolant as over time it actually stops cooling as much.
The silencers are home made, and it ran perfectly ok on the standard airfilter. When i fitted the k and n filter it ran really weak but with the powercommander and specific download etc for my engine on the dyno its perfect now. If your not sure whats been done by the previous owner its always best getting it checked on a dyno just to make sure its fuelling correctly.

cheers chaps. temps sound good then. I think its caus im used to the R1 with a radiator bigger than the one in my living room!!! Think i will book in to have it checked out on dyno too though to be safe.

The fan did kick in at 100C and got back down to 90C quite quickly.

Just a bit of new bike syndrome, looking and listening for everything. - i do like the way it sounds like an old dot matrix printer when starting up, made me chuckle

Thanks again

M
