Chain rattling on JMC swing arm

As the title says my chain is catching the top of the swing arm, especially where the bracket for the chainguard goes across, this is wearing a nice groove in the top of the swing arm and making a bloody annoying racket.
I think what i need is a bit of something, PLastic, Nylon? glued or rivetted on top of the arm to protect it, is there such a thing, and how best to fasten it on??

most machines come with a runner of nylon or some other hard slippery plastic to prevent your swingarm getting slaughtered and your chain getting damaged.
If you do fit one drill countersink and bolt it, not glue as this will whip off easily.
If you know someone with a lathe get a long strip of nylon or any self lubricating hard plastic, (nothing soft that will melt as that will bugger your chain up just as quickly as not being there) and get a channel cut along its length slightly wider than the chain then just cut into lengths for replacement when needed.
Another option is a tensioner with longer chain as used on dirt bikes, this would keep the chain clear but allow movement as the suspension compresses.
A friend of mine, (who recommended this site to me), Jon had a similar problem with his harris framed Z1, he made up a tensioner/runner with an old front sprocket and some sticky back plastic and an old egg box or somesuch.
Maybe worth a PM to him to ask if he can give info on the how it was done side, i know it's been working well.

Hi Steve.....i had the same problem with my metmachex swingarm. I had a couple of nylon squares about 4-5mm thick made up and used this special adhesive that we use in the aerospace industry. The adhesive is a two pack and can only be removed by applying a bit of heat....such as a heat gun or haidryer. If you send me a pm with contact details i'll send you some nylon bits and the glue. The good thing about this glue is when heated it comes off in one lump and does not damaged the swingarm. They will need to come off occasionally so they can be replaced when worn.

Use a block of Polyethelene for the runner. It's much harder wearing than nylon. Had the same piece bolted on my zed for eight years now with no sign of wear. Got mine from a firm called LOCATE SUPPLIES. They do all plastics / perspex and non ferrous metals .

Thanks for the help guys and that would be great Scott, I have sent you my details via PM.
I would much rather glue them on, if only cos I can do that without taking the swing arm off.
Thanks again.

JMC will sell you a suitable block. i drilled it and fastener it to the JMC swinger on my RD400 and another on a mates Z1000 using nutserts and M6 countersink screws.
Be prepared to be patient with JMC coz they will say its posted when it isnt'
