Spitting distance from me then, I pop into Hempstead 4 days a week, have a niece there and was at the flying saucer last night, if you need a second pair of eyes at some time give us a nod and I will see what I can fit in, norsewood another member lives near the sava, and these days i'm on an xs650 though when I've put it back together I feel another thou coming on.

0.002 is too tight it will run like a bucket of blood when it reaches temperature. its better to set them as close to the maximum clearance 0.003 is the minimum you should aim fore

What happened to your old gasket as normally they don`t need to be changed every time you remove the cam cover !

A smear of grease should sort it as expensive to change it every time :!:

Hi I'm all back together and waiting descent weather to run it. Got good compression on all 4 cylinders and set the carb gaps so Hopi g it's going to be better.
Carbtune all set up and plugs cleaned.
I will have to set up the picture posting and get some pics up.
Oh and re routed the wiring harness! So much better.

ok if i have rely good compression on all 4 cylinders and valves are set near perfect.
but bike struggles to start and carbtune gauge not even fluttering does that mean gap at bottom pf piston should increase or decrease.

oh yes thanks to Steve Smethurst and some words of advise and encouragement finally got carbs sorted.
So they are original Z900 A4 Mikuni Carbs
They did have the notches i the throttle valves. just! but they were there.
set the carbs up and fitted back on bike.
Started
Running
Warmed up
Connected Carbtune
1 & 2 high slightly and adjusted down all perfectly level.
Happy days
or
So No 4 is popping, checked for leaks and seems ok.
No 4 doesn't get as hot and plug is wet.
Spark good and compression good.
Bike hunts so obviously down to the 4th cylinder.
Its not drastic but annoying.
just happy its running so any ideas??

ZED

think it might be a little deeper than that. she is running ok with the odd pop now from number 3.
I put the color tune on each plug and from 1.5 turns out initial setting
1 & 2 i had to wind the air pilot out a little to get the nice blue in the plug.
3 went in a little
But 4 is nearly all the in just about half turn from shut.
Made a difference and revs increased on every adjustment.
the jets are all new so ??

if the plug is breaking down it wont be burning the fuel correctly & will have a big effect on the mixture / settings
