530 X-ring Chain Conversion for a Z1

Hi Simon,
Sorry to resurrect this old post but I'm just doing the 530 chain conversion to my '73 Z1A. I went to B&C as you did seeing as they sounded like they knew what they were doing.
Anyway, here's my question: the OEM front sprocket has a hole drilled in it close to the splines where the tab from the locking washer enters. As you know, after the sprocket nut is tightened you simply bend up one side of the washer against the it and it's then locked in place. The problem is the Renthal sprocket supplied doesn't have this hole. I called B&C to ask if it was OK to use / did they have sprockets with this hole but they said they didn't make them like that and wouldn't give me a straight yes or no if it's safe to use.
I could try drilling a hole although the sprocket is case hardened so could take a bit of doing!
Did you have this issue and if so what did you do about it?
Thanks in advance,
Gareth

Hello Gareth, do not worry about the front lock tab, that tiny bit of tin folded into the hole of the sprocket does not take a lot to shear off and in the early days of racing Z's we lost quite a few front sprocket nuts/ lock tabs before we started eliminating the locktab washer and fitting the nut with a dab of locktight instead, we also torqued the nut to 75ft/lb.
