davejames wrote:Chris, that's a beauty. Is that the same bike that Andrew Nicholson restored a few years back with some help from Ash ?? :D :D

Not as far as I know Dave.

I bought the bike from a guy in the Surrey Hampshire border region that worked in a bike shop. That picture was taken at Boxhill and someone came up to me and said he knew him and that therefore what I had paid. We were discussing values and sale price. I paid £2500 which I think was just about right ?

As far as I know it was imported in 1997 and is unrestored ! I guess it had a King / Queen seat as there was a fibreglass based copy item on it. There were / are some usual American mods on it like chrome bolts replacing original which I am trying to put right.

Here is the Ebay picture that made me go and see it :D :D :D

It seems as though we are drifting away from the topic (This is known as hijacking Mr Whitehouse and is frowned upon  ) however I can help you with original part replacement or Guyzed can help where modifications have been involved. Of course there are others here with infinately more knowledge than us but post a question and you will almost definately get the definitive answer.

Yes mine was the one on ebay last week.

It's been very well maintained but not original. Looks like the brake master cylinder isn't a Z one and the front forks are obviously not Z forks. It had previously been done in a street fighter sytle so I'm guessing the forks were changed then. Any ideas what they may be off cus I guess the master cylinder is off that bike too.

I've got a new Z1000 brake lever that don't fit so if anyone wants one let me know ;)

Welcome Dave, from another "local".
Lots of good stuff on here, help and advice a plenty, a bit of p**s taking too.
There is a monthly Midlands meet, details in "Meetings and Events".
As for the forks/discs, perhaps you could take a close-up pic. From a distance, they look like Suzuki.
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

Cheers, looking forward to some meets. (In better weather though, since I've not riden for 5 years and the ice is scary!)

Good idea, I'll get a pic of the lever and master cylinder later and post it up.

They look like Z1000A1 forks turned round to me, so the calipers are behind the legs.

All calipers on proper bikes are in front of the fork legs.

Be sure and take a picture of the calipers and where the bleed nipples are in relation to the union. I suspect they are correct but have just been turned. :nono

As already said you do not need a front brake light switchh to pass mot, there should be a small cylinder mounted on the brake line junction box on the lower yoke with two male bullet terminals on it that is the pressure switch. You may well find the wires simply disconnected and tucked up in the headlight shell and just reconnecting will make it work.

WE all used to do this back in the day, so that if you steamed past a cop you could slam on without lighting up the brake light.

Nice Bike and welcome to the club.
