No oh cynical one! genuine is the real deal, and not a pattern or aftermarket part of dubious quality. I spend a lot of time and effort finding the "real" parts for my Z650 parts that everyone will tell you are no longer made or stocked, like the 4/2 exhaust for the early B model 650's, well I found a new original one last night that I am working on getting shipped to the UK for my bike, I will be doing the same for my new GPz1100, I have already found the genuine black chrome exhaust system, and some other parts that I was told are unobtanium, although the fairing is a good used one, which to me is better than an new aftermarket copy.

UK KEV did you manage to get the fitting kit with the fairing?
Hopefully, I should know by the end of the week when it arrives here, I was told it had all the brackets, but hey it's used and old, so I expect the worse.
Jack, thanks for the info, when I can get some cheques I will think about joining.
Too much time? probably, single minded stubboness, absolutely :)

Not sure Jack, I like the bike as it is, and it certainly goes well, with no smoke or horrible noises comming from the engine, I am pleased with the deal I got, but I am just trying to work out what bits are what, if you see what I mean.
Overall the bike is solid, but needs a refinish, all panels are sound with no broken lugs etc, and the tank is pretty straight. So what direction to go, that is the question, I like the "lawson" style as do most people on the street, it certainly grabs attention! but there seems to be an awefull lot of non Lawson copies out there, which detracts somewhat from the real deal, having said that a Kerker exhaust and some piggyback shocks would put mine in the park.
The Exhaust is high on my change list, but whether I return to a set of black chrome originals or a black Kerker I am unsure of at the moment, the Harris is just too loud when riding.
I am looking into a whole new colour scheme based on one of the other racing teams that used these bikes at the time, hence the Moriwaki link above somewhere, so if any of you have any pictures from race teams back then I would like to see them.
Kev.

Kev,have a butchers at a book called KAWASAKI RACERS which has a great picture of Eddies '81 Z1000J superbike.
Eddie raced Z1000J based Kawasaki America works bikes as the E.L.R. was just a marketing idea to benefit from his 1981 chamionship victory, hence the 1982 Z1000R1 which was never imported to the U.K.
Check out the Z1000S1 as this is the bike to have if you got as much spare cash as our Paul (George Clooney a-like)
