Phantom bolt

#16 PostAuthor: corpy » Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:52 pm

Thanks, all.
I am pleased to know that I haven't got to take the barrel off again. A job is very much quicker the second time but still I wouldn't fancy having to compress all the rings again.
On my engine the large cast aly housing and cap for the tensioner cross-piece, points towards the right or off-side.
Incorrect torque figures in the maker's manual, red herrings in the Clymer one, grumble grumble. It is all a bit different to an MSS.
Where would I be without you?
SORNing the trike has somehow taken the pressure off and the job is more enjoyable now although at this rate, and with the weather forecasts, I will be broadsiding on snow whilst running-in.

Phantom bolt

I felt sure that I had seen an exploded diagram of the cam chain tensioner arrangement in the K manual but can't find it now. Never mind; it is a phantom bolt.
Just looked through the K manual to see how the tensioner is mounted - it clearly shows it pointing to the left, as Zorded says, but in the murky background of some photos it could be to the right. Mine was to the right but it doesn't seem to be 'handed' in any way so I suppose yer takes yer pick.
Now waiting for a Cometic gasket to arrive.
