Newtronic ignotion failing? - is Boyer better?

#1 PostAuthor: 1340fxd » Sun Aug 02, 2009 5:30 pm

My 78 Z1000 has started mis-behaving on start-up. She caughs backfires and splutters when I first start her up after a couple weeks of not using her - I have two other bikes to keep happy, so the old Zed gets a run every couple of weeks

I think the problem is that the battery loses voltage over the period (it is a new battery but I can't trickle charge it as there is no electricity in my garage). After about five minutes of running, she clears and runs well. On re-starting after a run, she re-fires without problems.

The ignition is Newtronics who I think went bust so to solve the problem I'll probably get a Boyer system fitted. Their website show only "digital" ignition kits, whatever that means?

Does anyone have any tips or experience of the Newtronics system vs the Boter Digital stuff? :??

Get a Dyna system , miles better than anything else . Dyna S if money is tight , Dyna 2000 if you can afford it .

To be honest, i haven't had experience of either of the systems you mention, but have known a few that have used Boyer. I can't think of anyone that would recommend them.
I am sure someone with more experience of electronic ignition, will post their thoughts. Many owners use Dyna ignition systems, usually with good results.

Dyna wins...... every time

Newtronics (was Pirahna years back) aren't the best..... Good coz you can static time them (in a dark garage - out of the sunlight :?? ), but new manufactures may not be as sorted :|

Boyer is OK, but coz its magnetic triggered, can't be set static  The plus point is they're UK based and quite helpful, but so are Dynatek

Although theres plenty of people running Boyer - for the last 20+ years

Pays yer money, makes yer choice :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

As Fer said Dyna is probably the best.

Have you considered something like this?

Thanks guys - looks like a new Dyna 2000 it will be. I like the idea of the solar charger but in an underground garage that could be a bit of a challenge. :)
