I'm doing a rebuild at present , an early 900R and was looking for some info on quality chromers . There used to be a superb chromer in Glasgow (EPS) but they've shut down . In the last Newzletter someome mentioned Steve Smethurst's work as being v good - he used to clean crankcases too I think . 2 separate people that I trust in Scotland tell me there's no-one here that does a good job.
The only contact no I've got for him is 15 yrs out of date .I'll test out the 900R's chroming then commit myself the much overdue rebuild on the "real" bike in the garage.
Thanks for the input
Gray
PS
If anyone asks you for a tip tell them never to play leapfrog with a unicorn

Just be careful whoever you use doesn't lose the stampings/markings off your parts when they re-chrome. This is a sore point with me after having the "highly recomended" place linish the damn marking off a couple of my bits.
Course I'm talking about Oz, you probably don't have those troubles over there.

Begging your pardon sir, but you did say that you'd like .................a green one?

I do know the Hythe based people are good but the price reflects it!

Hi Gray
I used a real good company called Marque Restore - Coventry area. The owner Alan is a top guy - quite happy to bore you senseless about the art of electro-plating...
They are restoration specialists ( rather than commercial platers who sling the old classic part into the bath) and the work they've done for me is excellent. They managed to reproduce that 'waifer-thin' 'grainy' original Jap finish that I asked for - a lot of platers are loathed to do that. They'll also spoon it on for that real shiny show look too - whatever you want reallly! And they repair items and remove/fill surface damage too.
They ain't the cheapest mind - but everyone knows there no such thing as a bargain...

yeah , I know what you mean - the chrome is so thick the spanner that took the chromed bolt off can't get it back on again--literally!
Distance isn't an issue , quality and reputation is what I'm after .
We all know that you can have it good or cheap but not usually both at the same time
See you at Ingleston Paul- maybe the Saturday.
