Hello all, i have fitted a new oil pressure switch in the hope it was that at fault but to no avail. If the tickover gets low (below 1000rpm) it flickers on, also it came on whilst riding so it`s a little random. The first time it happened was whilst shutting off after a 1/8th mile run, fine while accelerating but on slowing down the light came on. Once fully slowed down the light went out, after the 3rd run the light stayed on though, bugger. After an hour or so i started it up again, light flickered a bit then went out, i rode it home (about 10 miles) and it was fine. I know the oil pressure is very low anyway, but i`ve never had these problems before, so something must be adrift.
There are no dodgy engine noises and it seems to run fine, my next step is sump off, check the pick up and remove the oil pump to have a look at that. I remember on the old forum someone put on here a scan of a Kawasaki recall sheet showing if i remember how to check oil pump clearances, is that still on here somewhere? Any other advice would be much appreciated, and any new oil pumps may be useful too!

sounds like dropping the sump may be a good idea. - if only to rule out the below.
I had a problem with an engine a while ago - dropped the sump and say the oil pump intake was blocked with some black plasticky goo. On further inspection the cam chain guide wheels had partially broken up and the bits had then been sucked onto the oil pump gauze strainer.
still ran fine but runs a lot better with it all cleaned up and the buts replaced !

Thanks chaps, Rich i already have a sump gate fitted so that rules that out plus if it was that then it should happen on acceleration not on slowing down? I`ve really been a total waster as i`ve had all winter to look at this but now the new season is looming i really need to get it sorted, i`ll let you know what i find.
A couple more quick questions though, does anyone have a spare decent oil pump if i need one? And knowing how much gnuine gaskets are should i get a genuine Kawasaki sump gasket or are pattern ones ok?
Thanks again.

Don't forget the oil has to surge to the back, not be picked up and not activate the oil switch and if you're only on an 1/8th then it's not much time.
Klingerite is klingerite personally I use Vesrah and Cometic head gaskets and the vesrah gaskets have been Ok with exception of the cam gasket which seems thinner than the std one but do put a new oil seal in.
