Z1A Carb problems

#1 PostAuthor: johnboy » Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:04 pm

Hi
I have a Z1A carb problem.
It is mis-firing, rough running, popping and banging but is better with a bit of choke on.
I have borrowed a set of Z1000 26mm carbs to compare and with the borrowed set it starts easily and runs tons better.

My Z1A carbs have been cleaned by myself with new carb kits, new jets etc.

What i want to know is what is the best stuff/any tricks to use to ensure clean passageways.
It is the first time the bike has run for years.

If cleaned by ultrasonic, how would i know they are really 'clean'? and i wouldnt just be out of pocket?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
John

The misfire starts from cold.

With the borrowed set of carbs the no1 cylinder is slightly misfiring , with my set it is misfiring constantly and it is no4 cylinder and doesnt start easily and keeps stopping

Any help appreciated

It does sound like fuelling , similar problem with mine 28mm carbs right size jets , i put 26mm carbs on with standard jets ok now , ultrasonic cleaning is well worth it , its a good process and really works , you can make your own cleaner , there was a thread a while back on here on how to make one simple but effective. Are you running with standard pipes , and especialy air filter also

Thanks

pipes are 4 into 4 non standard stainless steel, but is a brand new standard air filter.

Cleaned carbs again with a spray and it comes out of every orifice, stripped choke assemble apart and cleaned and is better but am now going to try and get some carb balancers.

Johnboy,
If you send them to me I'll take a look at them for you FOC. I restore early Z1 carbs, primarily, but the're all similar.
There are too many things to check so best if I have them and give you some feedback.

Regards,
Mike
