Harris Magnum 1 - Headrace bearing lock nut?

#1 PostAuthor: Magnum1 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 4:44 pm

Any of you Harris boys know if the headrace should have an extra nut on top of the adjuster nut. Mine keeps coming loose and I can't remember the extra one being there after the last rebuild. Gets a bit clonky when you've done a few miles!

Mines got a nut on top of the bearing and one above the top yoke.

Only problem is mine has a set of billet yokes and I can not remember if thats how it was with the original harris yokes.

Hi Greenlaning,
Thanks for the reply. When you look at the headrace adjuster nut, does it have another one immediately above it to stop it from coming loose?
Cheers,
Rod

Hi mate , having had a couple of harris's I have never seen an additional but above the bearing adjuster.

If you need to verify though ring Harris and ask to speak to Lester Harris he has always been most helpful whn I have picked his brains I think he loves talking about the early stuff.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,
Thanks for that, I think the memory is going a bit. I know Lester quite well, just felt a bit daft phoning for something so simple. I have to change the bearings so might just put a dab of locktite on, or it might be because I tightened the yokes on the forks before I did the top nut, hence there's not enough pressure from the top yoke to the adjuster.
Cheers,
Rod
