My Dyna S was fried buy over voltage from a knackered regulator and this had the same symptons however mine was a bastard to start!
The pick-ups on mine have a white "goo" oozing out from underneath and apparently this is what happens when the Dyna S receives to high a voltage.

Whatever it is you have my sympathies as when it happen to me I got so pissed off with trying to start it then stripping the carbs, checking the valves clearances, checking the ignition etc etc etc that I put it in the back of the garage and left it there for a good few years. Admitted I (well Mrs S to be exact but I did do my part) have had a couple of kids since then so these took up most of the time but it is so easy to get downbeat and just ignore it.

Anyway good luck and hope you find it soon to take avantage of the good weather.

Sooooooooo went out to it today and thought may as well put the dyna coils back as the other ones ginger bear gave me made no diffrence but before i put them on i thought, even though the frame was powder coated 2 years ago should i grind off the powder coating were the coils bolt on the frame, so i did not expecting it to do anything put the coils back on and it fired up on all 4 pots took it for a spin and all seems well, spoke to ralph and he said that would explain the shock through the handlebars in the rain as the coils had a bad earth but why would it do it now all of a sudden when the frame was powder coated at least a couple years ago.

Maybe a small amount of oxidisation around the bolt holes will cause intermitent problems , i found this out as a former electroplating technician , at times a small unoticable amount on the contact was enough to seriously impair the current flow and a failure to plate up would be the result , so to cure the problem its good old copper ease this stops the oxidisation while keeping a good current flow , just a light smear on the points of contact of the bolts should do the trick.
