Had a little " burn up"with my brother tonight pulled away from the lights slipping the clutch buiilding up the power and the oil warning light comes on.
It stays on i pull over it flashes on and off then stays off. No smoking loud rattles I ride home 4 miles no problem. What do think, my other z I have has never had aproblem is this a common thing with maybe the switch?Any thoughts!

oil pressure switch?

Yep like Guyzed says oil surge to the back of the engine on hard acceleration will cause this as the oil pick up sucks air!
Drag racers fit a baffle plate or a modification to the oil pick up so it picks up from the back of the engine.
Usually only a problem on a standard bike when the oil level is low.

Could be as he says oil level, could be the switch, could be dirt on the gauze round the pump starving it you may need to pull the sump off for a shufty.... What engine number is it it may never have had the service bulletin 4/900-6 mod done to the oil pump (as printed in club magazine #55) which some needed you'd only be able to tell if it had or not from looking at the oil pump if the engine numbers in the mod zone.
Or it could need a rebuild, but start with the eliminations first....

As Guy and Steve say, could be just that the oil has surged to the back. I've had this happen under "enthusiastic" acceleration. Worried me too.
Checked the oil level, which was low, topped it up, never had a problem again. It's worth checking the switch too.
As everyone knows,Zed motors are bullet-proof.

The mod was a small hole to eliminate "air locks".....
As already said.... top engine level to max mark in sight glass...
The oil switches can be a bit tempremental....
Check the wiring too
Take it out & give it a good check over
Finally the gauze over the oil pump tends to block over the years... If you ain't checked it or the bike hasn't be stripped for a few years... whip the sump cover off & you can see it & give it a scrape off. This is vital for the engine to stay Bullet Proof

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
thanks everyone, it was low oil! and I know now that when checking oil level with only a side stand on the bike, trying to hold the bike in the upright position then bending further down to see through the spie glass I was
leaning the bike over more and kidding myself i had oil in it. I will now take my time to check properly, probably!!
cheers 903rob
