Alan, grasping at straws, as you will be aware the stock advance mechanism for the Z1B is different to the Z1R, it sounds to me, using the Z1B stock mechanism, the springs may be "shot" and advancing too fast. or not enough for the 6000 odd revs. Try another set. Don't try to buy the mechanism new, they will set you back an arm and a leg.

I had similar probs with mine after a top end job so went for a dyno jet kit. Never looked back. Like a completely different bike. Best oner i ever spent. Easy to fit and setup too.
