engine number?

#1 PostAuthor: smeg918 » Wed Apr 08, 2009 4:50 pm

Hi folks, Just got myself a 78 z1000 A2 ( well according to the frame number) project which needs a bit of TLC. Can't figure out the engine number though, any of the sites I've looked at say it should start with Z1E but mine has Z1R. Any idea's ?

Do you have a log book?
As far as i know, no engine is stamped Z1R

Hi Phil, Just got the bike a few days ago off a old mate who I had meet while getting my bike mot'd. The log book says the engine number should be E052706, but it wasn't till I got it home that I clocked the diffrent engine number which is Z1R956030. The frame number matchs the log book.

Best bet is to speak to the person you bought it from, to see if there is a rational explanation as to why the log book doesn't match the engine number.
The engine number you have doesn't match anything i can find.

I'll certainly be asking him about it, I don't think he knew, he bought it from some guy in wales about a year ago with the intention of getting it fixed but never got round to it. MMmmmm what to do :?:

If you're after originality.... get rid.... :??

If you like the bike & want to keep it, its simply a matter of informing the DVLA of a change in engine number :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Hi, pigford I'm not bothered about original, think I might do that, contact dvla and get it changed. Still leaves the question what engine is it. I suppose if dvla are cool with it and it doesn't turn out to be stolen I'll go ahead and restore it. worst case senario is I'll need to get another engine a bit of a bummer but that'll teach me. Thanks for the help lads. :)
