I checked out the link Chrisu posted and tested my coils, found only 7 volts getting to them. So I did some fiddling with the wiring and rewired the coils as per diagram and problem solved. Thanks Chris :brav

As an aside If you are using a standard relay you should think of replacing it with a relay with diode protection.
