further clock advice

#1 PostAuthor: mick znone » Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:10 pm

does anybody know what causes the needles to jump about and stick on clocks. i need to get mine sorted but dont want to send them off, then get them back looking great but still jumping. i spoke to Chris last summer and he said he could sort it. i believe its either the gel or the magnet. i see Rb has offered to do some but has had trouble with the dampening himself. sorry to bring this one up again, but i need to get them sorted somewhere so do need some guidance. :press

There is a 'damper pot' which contains oil..... :|

Over time this oil leaks/degrades/evaporates which allows the needle to bounce around

Chris Rivett showed me the actual "Gel" that goes in the damper. It is this that degrades over the years.

Apparently it is available in 205 litre drums
