Typical Pork Scratching attitude of removing things like brakes, carbs, etc.
In my opionion you're always best to solve the problem before changing things.

Al, ditch those CV carbs.... you'll never get them sorted....

Proper slide carbs are the only way to go

Mark there is nothing to be wrong with me tooters they work fine.
Standing Quarter in 12 seconds which is 1/3 of a second slower than yours and it is being in standard tune is it not?

The J carbs have a filter fitted to each carb above the float needle . Remove the screw and holding plate then pull out the float needle seat . You will be amazed at how much crap is on the filter . Remove all 4 and blow out the passage way with an air line . It only takes a small bit of crap to allow fuel to flow past the needle .

Fer i am not having shit in my tank or shit in my carbs or shit through the eye of my needles either.

The reason it says do the fuel heights with the engine running is because the fuel tap is vacuum operated. As you have replaced this with a manual one you shouldn't need to burn your fingers so much as you do not need the engine running Wink

Rich, dont got me a manual tap no how no way. I gots me a vacuum tap. It works perfectly and it is set to prime which as you will know means that it does not need vacuum to run the engine on which if i'm not mistaken is very lucky because the vacuum takeoff is currently occupied with the f*&^ing vacuum gauges.

This post was aimed at Dark skies and anyone else who wasnt a paid mechanic. It is a recycled post from precisely 31 days ago when he asked for advice. Like it says at the top it has taken that long to get the gauges or i would have posted it earlier.

It wasnt intended to benefit me or you it was for those who dont know.
The point which i clearly have not made was to show DYNAMICALLY what the baseline for standard set up might be if you need a reference point for tickover, vacuum and more specifically fuel service level at low throttle and deflection at higher RPM's.

I will ask admin to remove your posts and this one as well.

HI Jack i believe that you may have pm.

Zorded fortunately for him Dark Skies does have a manual tap.

Dark skies If your carbs are still off the bike you can do the fuel heights easier with them off, use funnel for a fuel header in the feed pipe and set them level with a spirit level.

Check - adjust - recheck

Zorded have a word with your local Scotoiler supplier about the scintered balls they use to smooth the pulses in their vac take off leads, they may act as dampers for you.

Sound advice Rich but i think i am damp enough already. I really think that the moisture has got to my brain and i believe that i have lost the plot.

P.S. the vac gauges aren't mine i had to go borrow them from a friend. How humiliating. They have dampers (In-line) but they are not adjustable. They are just a basic restrictor and they rely on the length of hose to smooth the response of the indicators.
Sorry for flying off the handle. No excuses i'm just a t*&t

Cheers for all the high tech info Zorded. Top stuff!

I found my float needles and filters were in a bit of a state so whilst I was at it I checked the floats with a Vernier. Tweaked them all up a bit (they were too high - so would cut off earlier than they should).

I'll try the fuel height thing soonish.
