Weird At 3500 Revs

#1 PostAuthor: Geoff Meager » Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:35 pm

Had a nice little 50 mile round trip up to the coast for Fish 'n' Chips today ...
After she warmed up I noticed that about 3500 - 4000 revs in top gear it felt like someone was dabbing the brake !!!! if I opened the throttle ..she ran perfect ...
Checked brakes & they ain't binding ... even opened fuel cap in case of a starvation ... but alas ...no joy
When it first started I thought I was in for a seize up ........

The bike is a KZ900A4 ... tuned & serviced just before the York's Rally ..
With new oil 'GTX' & filter... still running points

So anyone came across this before ( is it the advance )
Starts & ticks over fine ... & accelerates as she should ... So what is it ???

sounds like you might have a bit of dirt in the carbs this happened on one of my bikes which was a z650 undo the drain of screws on the carbs and place a plastic container underneath have a look in the container to check how much dirt there is . Ive done this on my bikes loads of times and this normanlly fixes the problem.

Unlikely to be advance causing that much of a problem :!:
Odds on a carb issue.....
Check all pipes & rubbers for cracks/splits... etc
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Sounds to me like crap in the float bowls.I had the same with mine as well and fuel leaking from the float bowl's.I bought 4x carb repair kit's which contained new float needles O rings, gaskets and It doesn't leak anymore.Istill need to check if it will pull on main jet though the problem bikes off the road for now. These beasties are only idling up to 3'500--4000 rpm.65-70-Mph is when main jet and fuel gets used. That's the nice bit of riding a Z on the open road :D carb kit I got was made by a company called tour max.Qaulity looks ok to me .Not that I know .
