CB's nu bike (in boxes mostly) has had the engine blasted, which looks very nice 'n' all, but I'm a paranoid little budgie, and am worried about grit or glass beads being inside the engine.
On the big zeds there are some blind oil ways in the head, which are bored from the outside and then blanked off with tapered plugs. I understand people often drill these plugs out to ensure that the oil ways are properly clear of blasting materials and then tap a thread and screw in a grub screw to seal it up again. I wondered if it would be possible to drill and tap the plug, say M6, and then screw in a slide hammer to draw the plug out and then turn up a new set on the lathe?
Does the 650 have the same system and has any one tried what I have outlined above to remove the plug? I understand that they often weep oil when grub screws are used; mostly likely as the screws being steel will expand less than the surrounding aluminium, thereby making a gap as the engine heats up. I suppose that the alternative would be to make aluminium threaded bits which could be machined off flush.

I've seen a GPZ750 with external oil lines fitted between the two cam shaft oil feed galleries. Basically just a braided hose with a banjo connection at each end. Would probably solve the weeping issue (the one I saw wasn't leaking!) and looks trick to boot

It must have been funny lighting in the place it was at, as having got it back to my workshop it is now obvious that it's painted but boy, did we find some other issues!!! I'm sure CB will start a thread under projects. We have photos!
