the Dyna DC1-1 coils normally used with Dyna S or points are 3 ohm, I am not aware of any coils that are 4.5 ohm, So what coils are the Boyer owners using ?

I can't find any info on the standard coils anywhere and am assuming from the reply from Boyer that the standard coils on a z900 a4 have got to be around 4.5 Ohms.

Steve im sure the standard coils were 2.2, and if you fitted the Dyna s the coils with them are 3.0

Stock points coils are 3.2 to 4.8 ohms, Mk2 had a ballast resistor in and the whole lot adds up to about 3 ohms, Js onwards coils are 1.8 to 2.8 ohms.

any of the points bikes are 3.5-3.8 ohm
79/80 bikes, 1.8 ohm
81 and up 2.5 ohm
with points, you need arouond 4.0 ohm

hi
I got Boyer and its superb. Made in britain and a 5 year warranty. Boyer technical ery helpful people on the phone. Of course if you want to pay for a 1 year warranty and fork out loads more then get a similar product that is no better in electronic manufacture. Just more pricey. I used Boyer twenty years ago and it never missed a beat. Bought modern kit for the latest restoration and its still a super piece of kit

regards

for what its worth...
3 ohms on points, dyna s works with these or green dyna coils
there are lower values for stock pei (programmed electronic ignition) or stock ignitors but can't remember the ohmic value (seem to remember 2.2 for grey dyna but don't quote). I have dyna s on my z 650 which is pukka!
Dyna grey coils with taylor leads on my Gpz 1100 but the jury's out on that one as my rectifier/regulator is fried on that (found that 20 minute ago)
go figure....

Taffus, Green are 3.0 ohm

Bollox, as expected after seeing bogiemans respons to the fact that I ordered a new Boyer Brandsen Ignition for my Z1A
Fitted and problems right off, bike cuts out after 20 mins running "no spark" you have to let it stopped for about 15mins before a spark appears and it will run again
This is a new unit, God damn it what a pile of crap

Just emailed Gremlin Racetech
"I purchased a I ordered a new Boyer Brandsen Ignition for my Z1A 900 Kawasaki 27-05-08 "PAYPAL *GREMLINRACE"
Fitted and problems right off, bike cuts out after 20 mins running "no spark" you have to let it stopped for about 15mins before a spark appears and it will run again
I am very disappointed as had to remove the unit and return to standard again, what can you do for me, due to take the bike to Spain/Portugal in a week
This is a new unit and I would not expect problems like this, it was fitted by a very competent mechanic who has a dyna unit in his
Charles"
ill post his response here

Get in touch with BB tell them the score and send off the faulty parts for them to test.
They will replace the defective components.

Makes me sick to know right after ordering the unit (seeing bogiemans comment) that I ordered the wrong brand of electronic ignition, waiting for it to arrive and knowing in all probability that it would be faulty, of course it was

Thanks for your help here people
Got this email a short while ago

Sorry to hear of your problems. We will contact our technical support at Boyer Bransden Electronics first thing in the morning. We will do all in our power to sort this matter for you and come up with a solution.
One thing which does spring to mind. What ignition coils are you using? Are they the manufacturers originals, or after-market? If after-market, what make and resistance are they? This information would help to pinpoint the problem more quickly.
We will stay in contact with you.
Regards
Gremlin Racetech
