Workshop Manual
So.
After sorting my valve timing I have now burned my Haynes Z1 workshop manual, I need a proper workshop manual. Z Power have a cylmer workshop manual for sale at ?23 that covers 900/1000 models up to 1980. Is this a good buy, or should I hold out for a propper Kawasaki Workshop Manual and if so where do I buy one of those?

I've not heard much praise for Clymer. I understand that they try to cover too many models in one book. the real deal come up on e-bay from time to time. I bought mine from e-bay for about twenty quid - Ok it's a bit dog eared and oily but that doesn't bother me. The bride won't let me read it in bed as she claims it'll ruin the sheets

All depends on what age your bike is - the proper workshop manuals are pretty model specific. If that coveres your bike then go for it. I guess it being a very early one will probably command a higher price than the one I bought for my Z1000A1. Don't bid 'til the last minute or you'll push the bidding up!

bit unfair on Clymer Ralph - and the missus as well !
I've got both and i'd say the diagrams - especially around cam timing etc is better in the clymer than the kawasaki original. They're better with the torque settings also.
Agree for model specific stuff the original goes into more detail.

Glen, congratulations on burning the Haynes manual, Clymer is certainly better, but a gen one is better still.
Genuine ones do come up on e-bay, i sold one a couple of years ago for just over ?20. Beware! The last one i saw, which ended last week, fetched an un-believable ?122!

Thanks for offering. I think that I have all I need for the moment, but will need the manual in the future. The Z1B is near completion, I recon a few more weekends and she will be running (fingers crossed).
Then it will be getting to work on a 1976 Z900 that I have had kicking around for some years. This is missing all sorts of bits, a challange that I am really looking forward to.
Thanks for the help guys.

I got a scan of the factory manual for my J (KZ1000 80-83) on CD from the US for about US$1.50.
the scan has been done by hand and many of the PDF pages are not quite square on but its all there. Have a Look at the US site KZrider.com. They get their funding via a kick back from ebay so there are always lots of Z bits for sale via ebay on the site. This is where I picked up the CD of the manual. Guy was very prompt on sending it to NZ
Although I like a book rather than squizzing at it on a computer the manual is much better than the Clymer which is my only other source.

I lied!.
I looked back at my visa card bill and it was US$4.99 for the CD plus US$1.50 postage
the guy who does these is thedoughboy@comcast.net.
