1075 wisco advice needed

#1 PostAuthor: Steve R » Sun Mar 30, 2008 9:02 pm

So you may remember fist time out a few weeks ago I ended up coming home on a break down van. Finally got to spend some time on it this weekend, gave it a service, new n d plugs, new ignition switch etc.

The cause of the break down was definatly the ignition switch the wires on the back had been soldered on by someone very badly so the new one sorted that out.

Took if for a blast ( sorry carefull shake down run!) this afternoon and the misfire had well and truly gone so that was due to the plugs sooting up as I had been starting it every 2-3 weeks over winter. Now pulls cleanly to the red line, Happy days  :P BUT:-

Still leaking oil from the cylinder head gasket on the right hand side

So I have 2 choices I could get and fit a new head gasket or since I am going that far I could fit a wisco 1075 kit.

The Bike is a Z1A , the engine already has z1000 barrels fitted so it will bore out no probs. I have Dyna coils and ignition with Kand N filters, a Vand H pipe and standard 28 mm carbs. I have no idea what has been done to the carbs but they are set up perfectly at the moment.

Does any one know who in the North of England preferably would be able to bore out the barrels and how much this would cost?

Does any one know if I would need to muck about with the carbs at all? I really do not want to as one day when funds are not as tight I will get a set of 29mm smoth bores.

Does any one know if with no other mods, other than the 1075 kit which is 10.25 to 1 , I will see any worth while power hikes  , again one day I will do cams and gas flow, but can not afford to yet.

Regards Steve

I put a Wiseco on my j as it was more cost efficent than buying all the stock parts. Arguabley better quality as well

Runs sweet with nothing done on carbs at all. Only hassle was putting barrells on as much of the champfer lost on rebore.

However despite having it torqued down correctly, slight smear of oil on head barrell joint. With the kit all the standard "O" rings are dispensed with under the head as a one part head gasket is used

hi steve have you tried repulling the head down ,you may be able to put another 1pound on the torque but dont over do it .on my old z1000 i had an 1105 kit i did not want it to go any faster than a stock z just wanted to get there with a touch more zing .so i left the stock cams in ,got it flowed stronger springs in head and clutch and put 4 triumph bonnerville mk11 amals 30mm on it with j rubbers  lets just say i had no more passengers.
dragracing, because it takes more than one ball !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll probably see 85 to 90 BHP at rear wheel with just a 1075.

Thanks for the feedback.

kiwiz did you notice any improvement in power how was it different? Was there any difference in Torque?

Ade, yes I have tried torquing the head but none of the bolts wanted to move on the torque wrench setting, so then, probably unwisely, I just put a socket on them and crammed them up a bit more any way hasent helped!

Rich is that an educated guess or have you seen that on a dyno with just a 1075 kit, if that is right I would not hesitate to go the 1075 route.

Any one else?

One thing to think about when rebuilding, either stock or big bore is to use APE high tensil cyinder bolts with their nuts. You are able to torque at a much higher level without streching the bolts as you would do with stock bolts. Also if you rebore have them champher the bottom to make fitting the rings easier.

As is its 71 bhp at rear wheel so 90 - 92 with 1075 and carbs is sounding very good to me. Think I will go with the 1075 now and ask santa for some 29 smothbores!!

I have no idea what the conversion yielded in extra HP and I would have to say I really didnt notice much difference in performance, but that may be more of a comment about how I ride.

What I did notice though was the cessation of oil burning and clean plugs which was what I was aiming for. I thought the Wiseco looked like quality kit although the three piece oil rings are a bit fiddly for someone who is nearly blind.

One thing I was a bit concerned about was the sleeve wall thickness after the rebore as there seems to be little advice on web about how thin this can be. The champfer thing was a real bugger and cause me some real problems getting it all together. I had done a Z1A back in mid seventies without any problems but in this case after 6 attempts at getting the barrells on had to pull them, get someone skilled to restore the champfers by hand with a file, and try again. I was terrified about breaking a ring. No spares in the kit

1075 wiseco kit

#12 PostAuthor: steve rees » Wed Apr 02, 2008 6:15 pm

Kiwz,

go get the wiseco 1075 kit!

i had my Z1R done by CQ performance in Southort, Merseyside (not really near you i know) and he did a really good job.

The bike had "half measure" compression when it went in and came out absolutely transformed when completed--it pulls like a train --better than my Z1000.

I could definately recommend it--it does work out more economical than using genuine or even pattern parts and you know you have a quality job when its done.

CQ did a good job and i can recomend them.

Regards

Steve,
Its me Steve that is thinking about it not kiwiz and merseyside isnt that far away, I would do the work myself but do you know how much the boring and honing cost and who did that on yours?

Did you have any other work done ie carb jets, and do you have 4 into a etc?

The more info the better please?

I just checked with Wiseco myself. This kit has not been discontinued after all, Wiseco are currently out of stock but will be making more kits, demand must still be high enough :fly, we still have a couple of sets in stock
