Remote front brakes

#1 PostAuthor: nicomkii » Sun Jan 08, 2017 1:19 pm

I'm going down the path of the Stone type, retro 70's thingy. With that in mind I have the bikini fairing and have a few styles of Ace Bars to play with, what is the best remote front brake system people have tried ?

Not seen the film Stone. It was on YouTube a while back. I forgot to watch it and just tried to find it but seems to have been taken off other than trailers or a few scenes. Not on ITunes either.

If you're not concerned about a classic look, a modern radial master cylinder is a revelation. I put an Accossato on my 1100R (cheaper version of Brembo) with the standard calipers and discs.
I only did it because the paint kept peeling off the original one and not because I expected an improvement - I did have the original stripped and powder coated but I guess the fluid had soaked into the metal.
I thought the brakes were quite good before but afterwards the brakes felt like those on a modern bike. Make sure you have decent sintered pads as well if you actually want to stop quickly.

Quite a few modern bikes have radial master cylinders with remote reservoirs, especially the street fighter type (e.g. z1000) so you could pick one up second hand.
