ZRX Engine cover bolts - what tool fits ???
Anyone care to share what they use to get the transmission cover, clutch cover, pulsing cover of a ZRX engine please ?
Looks to be 8mm headed bolts but the recess is too tight and deep for standard socket.
Have tried an 8mm tube spanner but it feels too loose and I am gonna start rounding them off.
Is there a special deep reach socket or what ?
Cheers from Mark

8mm deep socket. Make sure you put the same bolts back Into the same holes and if I remember correctly, some allow oil up the side of them. Think there's 2 on the ign advancer cover.

Don't have many 1/4 inch drive sockets but suddenly remembered my trusty Powerfix 26 piece mini tool box.
Had 7,8,9 and 10 sockets - thanks ALDI
Just got 16 years worth of crud and chain lube to contend with now.
1/4 inch socket set in better quality needed on my Santa list - don't think these will last too long.

Cheers Jeff
Good pointer.
Very different fittings to the 70's ones.
Tokico calipers remind me of my GSX 14.
Takes 14 pistons and three discs to stop these vs. one disc and one piston for the original.

Front Calipers take a lot off looking after, 6 pistons etc, if any problems with them a lot of people fit mk1 1200 bandit ones. (4 pistons). They work just as good,if not better.

Yes
I have the 6 pot ones on my GSX - one of the first jobs was to free them all off.
Need to investigate the ZRX ones cos it feels like they are binding when you push it - and the back wheel was spinning freely, so it must be a front issue.
PO has fiddled with gold spray so they need cleaning up on outside as well.
How I miss having a main stand

I changed my ZRX calipers out for a set of Brembo 4 pots. I was never a fan of those 6 potters. They don't give a lot of feel and are very prone to one or more pistons seizing up.
Nissin (not Tokico) 4 pot calipers are also very, very good too. They will go on as a direct swap. They were fitted to lots of Japanese motorcycles plus some Triumphs.

After I'd tried the 4 pots, which worked great I had some radials from a zx6 that I got to fit on my z1000 but never got round to fitting. Had some mounting plates made up for them and they worked great. I then went the full hog and changed the front end. Trouble is with the Rex there's so much you can do to them.

Isn't that the truth

I keep jumping between bikes and doing a bit on each, when I really should be focussing on one or the other ...

All great fun mind

What front end is that with the black stanchions mate ?
