Which 1170 kit?
As per title, I am looking at an 1170 kit for either my 1000J (already got a set 0f 1089's for it) and or my GPZ1100B1.
I have found Cosworth 11.0 : 1 compression kit and 1170cc on Webike for £820.
http://www.webike.co.uk/products/117579.html
I have also seen Wiseco kits with 10.25 : 1 compression and 1166cc for £720.
Any advice / recommendations please?

Is it necessary to have the crank welded with a 1170 kit?
Would be a good idea if you have the engine apart and are going to use the engine to it's fullest potential but seen plenty done without with no issues.
High speed missed gears, over revving and running wide sticky tyres that load up the drive chain rather than spin the wheel are the possible crank killers so it's 50/50 whether you will see the benefit.
Personally I would have it done to be on the safe side especially if you are aiming at extracting more power down the line.
As for pistons I ordered an 1170 kit from Wiseco for my z1100r I was promised the in 4 weeks 10 weeks later still no pistons, so I cancelled the ordered and contacted Roger Upperton. He has a small stock of Cosworth pistons on the shelf and got a set with rings for about 480 -500 quid. But you do have to source your own Cometic top and bottom gaskets.
As for cranks I had mine rebuilt and welded then balanced by Robin Applebee, as I heard that j series press together cranks have been known to twist. So I decided to take no chances.
Roger will no longer do cranks, as he said he almost had his arm ripped off whilst doing one.

Motor biking, motor biking, going down the queens highway like a rasher streaky bacon!
Hi Swampy - thanks for the reply, I had thought of using Roger Upperton in Leeds - as that is fairly close to me. I did not know that he did not do cranks any longer - so thanks for the heads up on that.
Did you mean Chris Applebee Engineering in Essex?

It is a long way from me, but it could mean a road trip if it results in a one shop deal?
