Deep joy, it seems that I've lost the key to the seat lock for my 650... So, , the local locksmiths says that he can't fo anything with / for it but I'm inclined to disbelieve him as the previous tings I asked him to do (cut a key and engave a trophy) he made a right royal hash of, so I thought I'd consult you genial chaps.
Firstly, is key-cutting numbnuts right, and keys can't be cut to suit? Or can I get a key to suit? Or should I just use a bungee to hold the seat down?...

Seat lock woes

There are places you can send the lock too and they make a key to fit.
Think it was in one of the classic bike mags not to long ago that showed you how to make the lock fit another key as long as you can get it apart.

Some of the older bikes had the key number stamped on the seat locks - which was a terrible idea from a security point of view, but useful if you want to find a new key!
If it has a number on it you might find someone with one who could lend it to you to get one cut. There have been chaps selling keys by the number. You might get lucky. Usually you can take the lock barrel out without a key.
CB hasn't got a seat lock on her 650, which has never bothered her. It ain't flappin' when her arse is on it
There's no room under it to leave anything valuable, so she's never demanded I find her another lock

If you've got the number from the barrel you can get a key cut. I had one done and sent from the US for £20.00 inc P&P. Fitted perfectly. I also think there's someone in the UK who can do it when I posted on a 650 forum.
If you know the number I'll dig out the details.
That was easier to find than I thought!

Hmm, the only number I can see on mine is on the cap of the lock barrel, nothing on the casting at all. Although I would've thought the number would be more likely to be on the lock itself rather than the body, surely?
Anyways, Malcolm can't sort the 650 one, only Z1 and 900, so I'm going to try keytrader.co.uk

I've resorted to the Americans, as keytrader could only do a blank key...
So, I got on to http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Rigentinc-Cycl ... 7675.l2563 and ordered a key, should be with me in a couple of weeks... ;-
