What's it doing?
I havnt replaced the plates just cleaned them. Soda blasted the plain plates, dressed the slots in both; basket and hub, cleaned the burrs on the tongues, added an extra plain plate and put 15% uprated springs in (Debbens).
Been deep in the red ever since with no issues.
**Some types of friction plates go in a particular way round if they are the type with helical friction segments!!

Which was the reason for the above.
On a cautionary note; it did make the clutch heavy which was why i drilled out the rivet pin in the clutch actuator (clevis) and replaced it with a larger one to take out the wear and create a greater surface area through which it acts.
Adding the extra plate rotates the operating arm backward to optimise the angle between it and the cable entry angle in the casing! (new friction plates would achieve the same thing i guess)
