Whirring starter motor

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Sun Mar 20, 2016 9:15 am

Hi all, I have got issues with the starter on my Lawson. It occasionally whirs when you start it up. I know it's the starter not engaging and i have had the starter out and also checked the rotor which had become loose. The starter seemed fine, when rotated, so I am at a loss now. The battery is fully charged according to the battery charger.

Most likely the 3 x springs & rollers in the starter clutch unit :!: Kits are readily available.
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Piggy, I stripped those down and checked them as one of the bolts had come loose. Replaced the bolt and torqued up the rest. I might get a repair kit any way, just to remove the possibility of this being the fault

It could also be the starter clutch housing
I had similar with My 1100R
changed the springs and rollers still whirring over
changed clutch housing problem solved

Cheers for the information, is the starter clutch housing the part that the springs and the rollers sit in? I know that zed power sell them, if that is the case.
