Good evening all,
What is the finish on the fork legs of a Z1000A1 supposed to be - it looks like brushed aluminium with laquer on it maybe? Any tips on the best way of restoring it?
I may be interested in fork parts for an A1 - I've got a set of slightly bent and pitted stanchions that probably aren't worth straightening, and slightly scruffy legs that need refurbing, and l don't know the condition of the internals, so anything that might save me money and/or elbow grease would be considered.
Thanks,
Olly

Fork leg finish

Mr B, I've seen the leg set up in a vice held vertically by the two studs at the bottom. Then get a medium grade linishing "Scotch-brite" belt (usually Blue in colour) and cut it in half so that you can work up and down the leg to gain the desired finish.
Once this is done, you need to look around for a product clear lacquer that will not yellow with age... I use a 2-pac product called "Glissen' made by POR15.
Oh! Make sure you buy the thinners for it as well. You have "had it" if you paint it on too thick.
