Dyna coils and MK11 ignition
Guys has anybody had any experience or issues matching 1.5 ohm Blue Dyna Coils to the standard MK11 exciter setup please ?

I thought you needed 3 ohm (green)? Thats whats I run on my "J" and 1980 Z1000LTD B3/4

Dyna 2000 unit uses grey 2,2 ohm.
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
Your logic is good Mark but the J ignition coils run at about 2.8 ohms so 3 is good, the book states between 1.5 an 1.8 for the Mk11/ST coils, hence the ?

the cct diagram has them wired in series so 6v would be correct

the cct diagram has them wired in series so 6v would be correct
post script Dyna reckon the coils are not voltage rated and the 6v coils will be fine on a 12 volt system,sounds reasonable

You need to remove the Ballast Resistor used with the standard MKII coils.
Been running like this for 3 years with no issues.
thats interesting, I didn't spot the Ballast so upon further investigation low and behold there it is, however when you check the bible the ballast and coil readings add up to 3 ohms in series so your setup is quite legitimate. The blurb states that as the coils are so low resistance the ballast is to limit the current to prevent overheating, its all clever stuff

That was my point Mark, design engineers usually have a valid reason for stuff... Its just not alway obvious and us mortals can only surmise and speculate, anyway im gonna get some 1.5 ohm coils and leave the resistor in place ... Cos I can
