Hi peeps.
Does any side stand fit any Z frame of the same era?
Anyone got one for a late 70s Z650 with all the bits?
Cheers!

Side Stands

You can make most Kawasaki side stands fit as long as the pivot bolt size is the same. Look for one where the spring fastening is on the same side of the stand, as different bikes have spring mounts in different places.
I found the stock side stand lets the Z650 lean over too far, a common problem with 70's bikes, even where there is no wear on the jaws. The stock Z650 stand is also curved slightly which again contributes to the lean angle issue.
I got hold of a new old stock KE125 side stand which is arrow straight, I lopped off the end and welded a new foot to the bottom, then spent five minutes with an a grinder at the fork end to reshape it and allow it to pivot far enough forwards on the securing bolt to lock safely in place against the frame mount.
These were work in progress pics, not the finished article but you can see the bike sits more upright
