MK2: Frame / Chassis

Hi all

Does the mk2 share a frame with any other model? I hope that makes sense? Basically I'm on the hunt for a MK2 frame but can't seem to find one, if they share a frame with different models I could broaden my search.

It definitely doesn't share it's frame with its shaft drive (ST) variant. If building a bike from frame upwards and you want the mk2 style, the shaft version might be a good bet, frames are more common, they benefit from a very wide frame at the swingarm so would take pretty much any arm. The engine can be converted to chain or fit a chain driven motor. MK2 stuff is rare and prices are climbing. Just a thought. I would imagine it is different from all other zed frames too, but I have seen bikes with bodywork from other models fitted. Lost of work required no doubt.

Good point on the swing arm pivot width, and I'll be using a chain driven motor.

Off the top of your head you don't happen to know the width st the pivot point do you? As I see you have / had one ( looking at your signature ).

Also are the panels & tank the same as the st ?

I can measure for you tomorrow, I do have an ST. The tank and side panels don't fit (might do with some tweaks?), tail does. ST tank is taller. The geometry is different so unfortunately not much fits both. I remember having a zzr1400 swingarm and it would have fitted the ST frame easily at the pivot. Then it depends on mono or twin shocks and so on..

Ok, tricky to measure but the swingarm is approx. 280mm, it looks like on the right side the spacer is part of the frame so there is between 280mm and 300mm space there. Big enough to swallow most swingarms i would imagine. I say the tank doesn't fit, over winter i could try the mk2 tank for size on the ST frame.

Pretty sure it's the rubber mounting points that are the main issue. One is lower and further forward...think it's the ST.

Z1000LTD B3 and B4 use the Mk2 motor, they can be had pretty cheap complete -

The frame isn't raked at all, it just looks it because of the shape of the tank and the 16" rear wheel, or so I'm told on good authority.
