Carb help

#1 PostAuthor: kwaka » Wed Jul 01, 2015 6:54 am

G'day fellas.
My Z1B has had a big bore kit installed by the previous owner, and I have a hunch that the carbs were never set up properly, the bike runs ok at normal speeds, but if the throttle is opened fast and wide, the engine just bogs down.

I've taken the bowl off of 1 carb, and the main jet has 705 stamped on it. I can't find any reference to this number, and i'm thinking this could be the source to my problems with how the bike is running. Anyone know what this main jet is off of and what a base line jetting should be for my particular engine?
Cheers

Kwaka, that main jet probably reads 105 the "ones" look like "sevens" with the silly stamps that Mikuni use.

Try adjusting the throttle cables, so they spring back firmly. with an emphasis on the cable that lifts the slides and a relaxing of the cable that pushes the slides back down. They should snap back!

Next, try adjusting the ignition timing and see if it's not advanced enough or too far advance.... only have to move the plate 1/8 inch in either direction.

What Pipe are you using?

How restrictive is it?

Thanks fellas. I checked the timing , and you're right it was a fair way advanced, just waiting on some decent weather to take it for a test ride!
The pipes are standard with baffles and the stock air box.
Do you think it would be worthwhile putting some pod filters on it and re-jetting or leave it as is?

If your running Std pipes, leave as is.
