I downsized the main jets to 105's (as supplied in the Keyster kit)
I put an extra "E" clip above the mormal one and this has stopped the needles moving up and down in the slides now, re-balanced carbs)
Result, much smoother and cleaner running and pulls better at all speeds, brought back the power surge at about 6000 rpm (rev counter a bit wobbly)
Off idle stutter all but gone, far easier to pull away without the bike lurching around now........
But what do i look at now? down sizing the pilot, this running rich at low rpm has always been a problem, changing the needles and needle jets plus what i have now done has improved the situation.........but christ knows wheree i go now
Any ideas?
Thanks
Gary
A very late reply here..going through old thread! Very good pick up on the up & down needle movement ....that'd definately would cause issues !! However, you must ensure that the needle can still move around/float to find it's own centre in the needle Jet or it'll cause quick uneven wear on both contact surfaces. I checked mine after reading your post & had a m.m. or so of movement there too !!!! i carefully ran a tiny bead of silicone (about 1m.m. high )around the top of the needle clip itself....let it set & BINGO ..no up & down movement now... but it will still rock side to side a little = OK. Also be aware the Alloy Poppet plug that the Needle head sits in n holds the needle down & captive .......well the top face of that other end too should also have 1m.m. of Silicone on it to take up the end float between itself & the underside of the retaining linkage plate with the 2 little fixing screws going into it.. i.e. holding it to the Slide itself , as that end has the potential to float too & this again takes up the slack there & acts as a damper( my 29mm Smooth bores which I bought new & they have that end silicone blobed from new.) Also you need a 261-06 needle jet/emulsion Tube unit to run with a 5DL31 Needle
This combination is what I have in my 29mm Smoothbores with a 1.5mm Slide cutaway
these are essentially identical to the 28mm your currently running ,so this combination all works fine & can verify that 100% . Cheers Johny Brando
