Valve timing

Have put the cams back in after a top end overhaul.

'T' of the 1 and 4 TDC mark is aligned with the pointer on the case. The chevron mark on the exhaust cam was either just above the horizontal top face of the head (pin of chain more or less directly in line with the face) or it would be below the face. So I set it to be just above. Measured off the 28th pin and set that the 28th position on the inlet cam. The chevron on the inlet cam sprocket was more or less in line with the horizontal face of the head.

However, once everything is fitted and tightened up the exhaust sprocket chevron is now just slightly higher above the face and the inlet cam sprocket is just slightly below the face is that OK? If you were to move the sprockets by one tooth then the exhaust would be below the face and the inlet above?

Having not done this before I'm not sure what sort of tolerance you get or can accept.

Rotate the crank two turns by hand in the normal direction of travel and see where the marks are then.
