Z1000R fork/speedo drive

#1 PostAuthor: RUDDY » Fri Jan 30, 2015 4:21 pm

Guys, does anyone have, or could take, a photo of the lower fork and speedo drive on a Z1000R ?

I may have run into an issue on my build as the speedo drive gear does not appear to 'lock' securely into the fork leg to prevent it from spinning, very little contact between the gear and the protrusion on the fork.

The speedo did work on the bike prior to stripping it and I never took any detail photos of the lower fork area.

Cheers, Paul

is it the right one? The speedo drive on my Z900 looks similar to the ELR but is a lot thinner when side by side. I cant help on the photos as I non-standard wheels and electronic speedo on the Lawson but can measure thickness if that helps.

Here's mine Paul, right up against the inside of the fork. The protrusion on the drive goes behind the one on the fork.

Link isn't working for me Glyn

I have the spindle in but not the wheel, with the drive on the spindle pushed as far over towards the fork as possible the protrusion on the drive completely misses one stop on the fork and only just catches the other by a tiny amount.

Just took this, haven't cleaned or painted the drive part yet

The stop on the drive just touches the forward stop and I mean just touches.

And this is how much it misses the rear stop by, has the corner worn off the drive part ?

Although it looks completely different the J1 speedo drive locates in exactly the same way. Same forks.
It looks like the corner is missing from the tab on the drive unit.
However, it is not necessary for it to be there it only sets the limits of where the cable outlet should be pointing.
When the wheel is complete and you tighten the two hex sleeve nuts up the outer body of the drive is 'locked' onto the spindle and only the internals are free to rotate.
Will be fine just as it is.
