Slide Carb queries.

#1 PostAuthor: Aztec Warrior » Tue Nov 11, 2014 12:14 am

A small enquiry. Have gone over my recently purchased Z (Predator 1000ST) to check out what's what and re-familiarising myself after the last one (17 years back). Have noted on the carbs, top left corner of each body, a tubed connection. No.1 is plugged by a grommet, No.2, tubed, no plug, No. 3 tubed and plugged with a bolt, No. 4 tubed, no plug. What is exactly going on here? What's right/wrong. No air box fitted, K&N's x 4.
I've run it like this and no problems noted, but thought this cant be right, so today, plugged the other two with bolts and all still seems ok. Rubber connectors to the head and the vacuum 'teats' on each are all sealed and sound.

Also,02nd queriess whilst here, I used to use Silkolene Semi-Synthetic 10/30.....Any good still?
And, is it Unleaded or the expensive stuff that is best these days? (Tank is 'treated' to combat E5........Cheers.....I'm so out of touch..... :!: :!:

2&4 are float chamber breathers which connect between the carbs 1+2 & 3+4 and would have originally gone to the airbox.

No.3 is a vacuum take off, that would normally connect to a vacuum fuel tap, but needs to be blanked off (as it is) if not using a vacuum tap. otherwise No.3 will run badly.

Confused.com?

1=Capped off.
2=Open Tube.
3=Tube, capped off (Pingel Tap fitted explains that).
4=Open Tube.

Q. Should I also cap off 2+4, or, are you suggesting 2+4 should be left open?

I'm sure 2+4 capped had caused it to falter and stop twice on my run on Sunday. Will revert back if that is the thing to do.
Having destroyed my Bullet engine recently with weak running, I don't wanna' get this wrong too?
Cheers, and as mentioned, well out of touch on big fours....

For your set up; Leave 2 & 4 open, either with or without a hose. Leave 1 as it is (blocked) & with a manual fuel tap leave 3 blocked.
