Which more modern front end for my Z1000A1 ??

#1 PostAuthor: evans » Mon Nov 10, 2014 3:39 pm

Hi All
Further to my various posts about trying to identify the forks on my z1000A1, I am planning to replace the rear wheel with a bandit 600, which I have, as this will fit into the mechamex swinging arm on the bike. With that in mind what would you suggest that I put at the front end that would compliment this and would fit the hand made yolks which take 36mm diam upper tubes ?

Any input much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

I don't think you'll find anything modern that has 36mm forks.

Even in the 80s that would have been considered puny.

You probably know but theusual upgrades are ZX9r, ZRX or Zephyr forks.

Good choice - decent kit - plentiful (cheap) & good brakes (4-pot calipers)
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Thanks. Looking at doing the same, using a bandit front end.
Any significant mods needed ?

Cheers

If you buy a complete front end, you will be looking at swapping over the steering stem from your existing triple tree setup to the bandit setup, adapting the ignition switch and clocks to fit the new yokes, probably altering the lock stops to stop the new forks hitting the tank on full lock. It'd be wise to drop new steering bearings in while it's all off too.
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)

Thanks for the info. I am seriously thinking about going for this idea. So I need the full triple tree from the bandit.

Cheers Chris
