"yea connected the earth to the correct place, still no spark, there seems to be nothing to the coils, tried the old coils still no joy, connected a live straight to the live coil wires and still no spark, its got to be something simple, ive cleaned all the coloured plugs checked all connections".

If you have fed direct 12v to the coils and still no spark, it can only be a bad earth or no pulse from the points. Try exciting one of the coils by disconnecting it's points feed and taking the coil wire to to earth and off again . If you get a spark when the temporary earth is lifted you know to look at the points area.

if you put a direct feed to the coils you should have a spark the only other cause is you have not wired the points & condensers correctly with the fibre washer not insulating the connection? you will still need to trace why you Havant got a live feed to the coils by doing a resistance check between the coil wires & the engine stop switch

Keith,

Have you got steel fixings or aluminium on the points casing? I had a problem where I. Could not get a spark, put one steel in the casing and it was fine..

Just a thought
